Find common ground in a first message
Use a shared interest to start a conversation without putting someone on the spot.
Choose one detail from the profile
Refer to something the person chose to share: a film, a hobby or a favorite kind of evening. “You mentioned live music; what was your last good concert?” shows attention and leaves room for a personal answer. Do not pretend to share an interest you do not have.
Offer something in return
Conversation works better when it is not an interview. Share a brief answer of your own, then allow the other person to take the discussion in another direction. Keep early questions away from medical history, intimate anatomy and other information they have not offered.
Leave space for a response
A delayed reply is not an invitation to send repeated messages. People have different routines and may decide not to continue. If an exchange ends, move on without demanding an explanation. Mutual interest is easier to notice when each person can choose whether to participate.
